The Ventafridda Award

Vittorio Ventafridda was a pioneer in the study of palliative care and pain management in Europe. A physician himself, he became a point of reference for a medical approach deeply embedded in humanity and respect for the dignity of the person. Ventafridda represented a scientific excellence that denoted moral rigor and compassion as essential values for those who provide care for people with serious and incurable diseases.

Created by the Maruzza Foundation in 2007 in honour of Vittorio Ventafridda, this award is presented to those who have demonstrated outstanding initiative and enterprise in the paediatric palliative care sector and acknowledges achievements in health and social care, scientific and humanistic research, in training, volunteering and disseminating the principles of which Vittorio Ventafridda was a forerunner.
